Welcome Fall and Bible Study Update

Happy Monday morning my fellow siestas!! I hope you had a great weekend. You all should be in full swing with your fall Bible studies.

Well, I start mine this Wednesday so maybe you haven't started yet. ;) If you have started your Bible Studies what has God shown you or revealed to you in your study? What you share might encourage another siesta today!

This week is O-ficially FALL!! This is my favorite time of the year.

I remember when I was married and living in upstate New York that our favorite thing to do in fall was to drive to Vermont or through the Adirondacks and look at the leaves changing or visiting a favorite apple orchard (weekly). They had a little stand with apples(of course) and pumpkins, gourds, BUT they made homemade cider doughnuts and they offered cider to wash them down with and it was so good!! Of course I enjoy, well I might as well admit, LOVE college football and the cooler temps and fall puts me in the mood to make homemade soup and cornbread. I am from the south and I need my cornbread. :) This time of year also puts me in the mood to make pumpkin bread and pumpkin pancakes. Good grief they are so good!!

What is your favorite part of fall? What is your favorite soup that you crave or must have during this time of year?

Of course, we have the Siesta Cookbook to go through and pick out yummy recipes.

I just want to pray that you have a great day with the Lord. I pray that He will reveal your calling to you and that He will light your way. He has equipped you to serve him. I pray that God would illuminate his Word to you. I pray for protection and provision and health and may each of you receive a special delight this week. Believe God for bigger things!!!

Well, some of us started The Bride of Christ by Martha Lawley last Wednesday night, and yesterday morning our pastor talked about how we, as the church, are the Bride of Christ. Also next Sunday's Sunday School lesson in our class will study the parable of the 10 virgins preparing (or not) for the groom's arrival. This is also incorporated into our study. Amazing how God affirms what we study!

Clear blue-sky days with low humidity are one of my fall faves, especially when the air is tinged with the smell of fall leaves burning. I also like to drive up the interstate (I-65) between Hartselle and Nashville and look at the beautiful changing leaves on the hillsides. (Also pretty fall scenery on the ride to Chattanooga.)

Patty, I just love your your passion for HIM that so speaks through your words. Just read the Book of Esther this week, and am going back over my Esther notes from Beth's Houston B.S.---a story of a woman who "loved not her own life." Can't wait to do the B.S. again when it comes out.

Donned a jacket and opened all the windows to let the inaugural cool austin air step us into fall. Austin air I breathe, a gift from God. ooohhh!

Our whole church is doing a study based on the book, One Month to Live. The Sunday message is based on it, and then everyone meets in their small groups throughout the week for discussion. It's been good so far. It really puts things into perspective when you think about how you would live your life differently if you only had 30 days left.
As for fall, I love the cooler temps, football season, changing leaves and trips to the orchard for cider and doughnuts.

I started a Weigh Down class last week.It is good to be doing a study again.

I love fall!
It is time for the leaves to change...the smell of burning leaves in the air. I am so excited about being here in the mountains..we will see the leaves change for the first time. You know you don't see pine trees change color unless they are dying. :)
Also, it is time for all types of soup! I love fixing chowders. But any type of soup is great.
But...I do hear shrimp and corn chowder calling.

Hello Siestas,

I am asking for a special prayer request, if I could. My sister and her family were hit hard by hurricane Ike. Their mobile home they lived in lost it's roof. They have 4 small children and are kind of in shock still. Please lift up the Tucker family from Vidor, Tx for me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Please know that my family and I are praying for all those affected by Ike. PTL!! That Katy, TX wasn't damaged as bad as some of the other areas.

God Bless!

Hi Siestas,

This is my first time commenting here.... I've enjoyed following you as you enjoyed the San Antonio trip.

My bible study group is going to ATTEMPT to do the Inductive Study of 1 Timothy. We get going this week.

I LOVE fall! And, just like the study you told... I LOVE apple cider and cider doughnuts. And, my favorite soup to make is Chicken & Wild Rice and Chili!

Have a great start to fall!!!

Today in San Antonio we are having such a nice day. The humidity is low and the temperature is cooler.

Even though it is not that cool..It still makes me want to cook up some chili!

I am enjoying reading all the Siesta stuff...I was there at the Siesta Fiesta but was unable to join you all for the activities.
The conference experience was absolutely amazing though!

For the Fall I am organizing a ladies Seminar in San Antonio called Looking For God (www.communitybible.com).
I am not currently signed up for a bible study but I am fixing to check on some online blog groups that are doing one. If you have any suggestions let me know!

The Siesta blog is awesome...thanks for all you gals do!

Be Inspired!

Fall is my favorite time of the year! I love being able to breath again and all the leaves changing.

Our Women's Bible Study starts tonight (so excited!). We're doing "Living Your Life as a Beautiful Offering" by Angela Thomas.

My favorite soups are potato soup and homemade chicken noodle soup with no carrots. Mmm, I could go for either right now!

We've started Beth's "Stepping Up" in our Ladies Bible Class. I'm loving it. I've learned to physically and emotionally humble myself before God every morning. It's a great start to the day.

At the beginning of the week, I realized that I was holding on to a hurt from years ago. I couldn't figure out why it was so hard to let it go. What I needed was to share it with my heavenly Father. It's amazing how freeing it was to just say the words outloud and share the hurt with The One Who Cares. I just needed to have someone hear how I was feeling. I felt validated and was able to let it go once and for all. What a relief!

All of the things you mentioned about Fall that you love, I do, too!! Hmm, I think my favorite Fall meal would probably be Chilli with Williamsburg cornbread to "sop" it up with! And can I just tell you I had NO IDEA they had such a thing as candy corn hershey kisses. . . oh my word, I'm hopping in my car right now;o)

Hi, Patty and Siestas! I love fall too. Sad to say but I don't have a Bible study group at this time so I'm not starting anything :-( but that is a scheduling issue on my end. This season is full for me with my boys. My wonderful Sunday school class is plenty of encouragement but I miss my "Beth Moore" group (several moved and others had scheduling issues).

Soups.....I love Santa Fe Soup and have already made it once (even though it's still hot in Alabama). In case it isn't in the cookbook, here is the recipe:

2 lbs ground beef
2 pkg. Ranch dressing mix
2 pkg. Taco seasoning mix
1 large onion, diced
1 can black beans, undrained
1 can pinto beans, undrained
1 can kidney beans, undrained
1 cans Shoepeg corn, undrained
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tomatoes w/ chilies
2 cans water (use one of the empty cans)

* brown meat w/ diced onion; salt and pepper a bit
* add all four seasoning packets; mix well
* add all cans and water
* bring to a boil; reduce heat
* cook down for 1.5-2 hours on low simmer

Serve w/ tortilla chips and sour cream or w/ cornbread.

Happy fall, Siestas! J

Hey Patty & Kim & All Y'all: Love this post!

My Bible study group is 2 weeks into "A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place" the revised version by Beth Moore! :)

Week 2 is amazing!!! I loved reviewing again that God provided the manna DAILY and that it was the responsibility of the people to GET UP, GO OUT and GATHER it! God's mercies are new every morning and we can have a fresh Word from Him each day - but we have to purpose in our hearts to CHOOSE to get up - go to our Quiet Time place and GATHER what HE wants us to have. Amen? What a great study this is.

I love FALL it is my most favorite time of year - truly. I love:

Football - GA DAWGS!
The Fair!
The cooler weather!
Beautiful leaves!
Autumn decorations - pumpkins, the spicy candles that are out.
Thanksgiving!
My birthday... :)

I love good old-fashioned homemade vegetable soup with lots of okra and tomatoes and corn and other veggies...with a hunk of buttered cornbread!

Be blessed,
Georgia Jan

Thanks for the wonderful post Patty. Monday night we started the Beth Moore study "A Heart Like His"...an oldie but goody I am sure. My favorite food is chili, I must confess I eat it year round but it is especially good in the fall, if I am splurging I have shredded cheese and fritos with it as well.

Patty,

Well, I'm moving right along over at my personal blog with my "Names of God Bible Study." I post there every Wednesday with a new name of God --- If I am not mistaken, this week we are doing the name "Ish" which means "husband."

I should wrap up the Names of God by the end of October and will take a break through the Holidays. Then I will gear up for the Names of Jesus. Anyone interested in reading up or participating should know that I derive the names from Ann Spangler's books by the same name, but I typically do my own research and pull out my own Scriptures and commentary. So if you want to jump in with both feet and discover the attributes of our great God and Savior through the names they are called... Come Ahead.

I will begin leading a small group of bereaved mothers through Grief Recovery/Freedom Focused curriculum on Wednesday (tomorrow) evening. I'm very excited about this class as I (with a lot of help from God and a great pastor at my church) wrote the curriculum this summer. I know God is going to be faithful and good.

I am also doing "Song of Songs" Which is a study of the book by the same name that my friend and Life Group leader, Gaye Moss, has written. We are studying it from the perspective of Christ being our Bridegroom and each of us individually as being the Bride. It is beautiful already and I have only gotten through the week one lesson. I've read four chapters of the Song and it is so rich with pictures and meaning... So beautiful.

I may pull into Stepping UP on my own. I got the book last fall and my husband bought me the audio cds for Christmas last year so ... All I need to do is dig in. I try to stay in several studies at one time... Just the way I am made and it is really cool to see how God lines them up for me. If there are any takers I would be willing to host discussion for Stepping Up at my blog.

Also, Lifeway's All Access may be hosting Pricilla Shirer's "Discerning the Voice of God" but it is temporarily on hold due to book availability. Keep checking in over there and you should be able to get some info on it. I am looking to do it when it starts.

Happy Fall Day Y'all!

I too ADORE fall. I am doing Stepping Up and it IS WONDERFUL! I say this everytime - but this one is my favorite! I love working it! I am getting so much out of writing it, which in turn helps me to apply it all through the day.

Today I am reminded that I serve an ENORMOUS God!

Praying for hurricane victims.....

I LOVE me some Fall weather! And some Fall colors - doesn't it make for the most beautiful photos?

I am actually trying to do 3 different Bible studies at once with 3 different groups. Don't ask me why...

I am obviously going to be in the Word this Fall though. It is amazing how it all fits together and is intertwined. Something only God can do.

We are starting "Stepping Up" this week.

My favorite things about fall are: the chill in the air which makes for perfect weather to watch Alabama football (sorry Patty); going to the local pumpkin patch with my kids; and the beautiful colors which God uses to paint the trees with!

My favorite food/soup this time of year is taco soup. I also love that it is "pumpkin bread" and "apple bread" season. The smells of lingering cinnamon and nutmeg in my house are just dreamy.

I will be facilitating Stepping Up by our siesta mama beginning October 1. We Raleigh girls are so excited! Many of us were at the conference where this was first introduced!

Fall means State Fair time here in Raleigh! Can't wait to eat all that "so bad for you" fair food.

My favorite soup has to be my husbands beef stew! No one does it like he does and I love to soak up the gravy with a big old biscuit! Yum! Yum!

Looking forward to Deeper Still in Greensboro! Hope to see lots of siestas there!

Much love!

I love too absolutely love Fall!! I love to drive to Utah and see all of the beautiful fall foliage. I was so blessed last October to be in my niece's wedding in Pennsylvania. The trees were gorgeous. We stayed in a cottage with a creek running in the back of it. I loved drinking my coffee while watching the leaves fall on the water after the wind blew them. I would love to see the foliage in the New England states.
I have heard of the cider doughnuts, they sound delicious.
I love to bake and make soups and roasts in the Fall. Apple cider and hot chocolate are a must.
Last night was our first night of our study "The Beloved Disciple". I know God will do a work in me with this study. Praise Him!!
I made one of my favorite fall desserts for the ladies...White Chip Pumpkin Spice Cake. It is so moist and yummy.
Enjoy your study and the season my friend :)
