Siesta Spotlight - Shonda

I am in love with Jesus!
He saved me—picked me up and turned me around.
He put me on the right path.
When I miss a turn, He guides me back to the right road—HIS road!

I just celebrated my 20th anniversary with my husband, Eldon. He has been so faithful to show me the love of Christ with his unconditional love for me over these years. We’ve had our ups and downs and downs and ups. We have two blessed boys.

My oldest son, Stephen just graduated high school & is now employed full-time and enrolled in junior college. My youngest son, Chase, will soon be 11 (he is at the age that you go one year up). I just finished one year in my fourth decade. (I cant get the actual number to roll across my lips or my fingers to actually type it as I don’t feel like that number!)

We live in a small town on the Texas/Mexico border. San Antonio is the nearest city which is 150 mile drive. But any way you drive out of Del Rio, the nearest city is 150 miles. Talk about being in out in no where. This definitely is a place where God gets one’s attention. There’s not much to do but pray and read HIS word. HE got my attention and drew me from my wayward ways toward HIM.

Being a mother of boys, I’ve learned to enjoy many boy activities. I’ve learned to wrestle, play with bugs (I draw the line with reptiles), soccer, baseball, primitive camping, laugh at loud flatulence releases, swim with sharks, 4-wheel driving Jeeps over rocks, hunt deer & turkey, kayaking, rock climbing and baseball (I think I already said that, but it is so prevalent in our lives).

I need a girl get-away!! Help! Please book a manicure for me!!

I love to read and study the Word of God. I enjoy Beth Moore’s studies as they dig deep. I like to follow all the references and dig deeper. I enjoy teaching HIS word and seeing HIS word transform lives as HE has transformed mine. The transformation process continues each day. At this time in my life, I’m a wife, mother, teacher, writer, and speaker. I home school and I have only one student this year. All these activities keep me very busy, but I would not want it any other way.

I’ve been teaching Bible studies for five years. This year the Lord has opened opportunities for me to speak publicly for HIM. Also I’m working on a book proposal that I’ve had critiqued by an editor who suggested I take it to a writer’s conference to meet personally with publishers this October in Glorieta, NM. I’m working and praying about this project. To God be all the glory!! It is all about HIM!I started blogging in June 2007 and have loved it. I started it as a way to start writing again. I had no idea that I would meet so many people and actually make real friends from it. The Lord has blessed more than I can think or imagine.

I look forward to meeting you at Siesta Fiesta in San Antonio!!

Ole!!Love & blessings in Christ—

Shonda,
Nice to meet you.

I love that song "Undo," that I think you were referring to at the beginning of your spotlight. "Turn me around, pick me up, undo what I've become." My middle daughter got to meet the band and she said they were such great guys.

Look forward to seeing you in SA! It won't be long, now!!

Shonda,
So nice to meet you! It is so cool to me to "meet" ladies through the spotlights and find commonalities (like you growing up in Littlefield and I lived in Brownfield!). I went from great hair and dry skin(brownfield) to frizzy hair and supple skin (houston/league city) :-).I really enjoyed reading your post; your joy is evident!

Woo Hoo! Shonda... I'm a mother of an '08 graduate.

So glad to meet you sweet sister. I'm a North Texan in the very urbanized D/FW metroplex. My husband went to that border country you hale from a few years ago and dropped his rifle while hunting mule deer... Needless to say he came home without a trophy. He was pretty angry about his gun, I was pretty thankful he did not accidentally shoot himself in the middle of nowhere and that he did not hurt himself in the fall.

Blessings, and maybe Big Mama can direct you to a decent manicure!

Blessings.

Shonda,
So nice to meet you!

I can relate to middle of nowhere. EVERYWHERE in Wyoming is there. Closest Mall-2 hours
Closest Red Lobster-2 hours
Closest Barnes and Noble-2 hours
Closest Costco-2 hours

We're in August now! This is THE month!!!

See you soon!

Sonda - We come to Del Rio every year for New Year's. (Actually we sleep there but New Year's is actually spent in Acuna.) Del Rio is in the middle of nowhere. Lot's of open space though. Can't wait to meet you in SA!

Greetings Shonda! So nice to meet you. I am a home school mom too! And just celebrated my 20th year anniversary with my husband! And I also feel like I live in the middle of no where! But after reading how far your about you live, I've decided, I'm not so far out!!!

Congratulations on your book! My fifteen year old has written a book and is working with an author, editor and person who critiques. It is a whole new world to us. I pray the Lord blesses your book!

For His Name,
