Siesta Spotlight - Ashley

Ashley
26 years old
West TX
http://www.thehoneahome.blogspot.com/

I am the eldest (or is it oldest?) of four girls. My parents were Southern Baptist missionaries in the Philippines for 12 years, so I spent majority of my growing up years there. We moved back to the US the summer before my senior year in high school. The Philippines is a beautiful country and I miss it very much. It was my home for so long. The States was foreign land to me, but fortunately I have adjusted!

My dad is still in ministry as a chaplain for hospice and a bi-vocational music minister. They live in the same town as me and I count it as a huge blessing!
I came to know Christ at the age of 7. I never was a rebel growing up, so I don't have much of a testimony. I went through a time when I kind of wished something bad would've happened to me so that I would have this awesome testimony, but then my good friend slapped some sense into me. God has blessed me and protected me from so much of the world and I could not be more grateful to Him for that.

He blessed with an awesome and very hot, I might add :), husband, Jim. God has used him to help shape me into the woman that I am today. We have been married 6 years.

How did we meet, you might ask? In court. Yes, you read that right. We both had tickets for parking in handicapped parking spots on our college campus. (I know, I'm terrible, but I learned my lesson.)

You can read the "in-depth" story at:http://thehoneahome.blogspot.com/2008/01/story-youve-been-waiting-for.html

God has truly blessed us two beautiful and very healthy children. They are pretty cute, too! My little girl turns 5 this summer and my little boy turns 3 at the end of the summer. I cannot believe I don't have a baby anymore. I will soon have a Kindergartner and a Preschooler. :( They grow up too fast! (And, if I want to be honest, some days it doesn't go fast enough!!!)

I am currently in a season of learning to completely rely on the Lord for wisdom and strength. I need to get better at getting into the Word and studying more. I also need to set aside a time for prayer. I pray about things all day, but I don't sit down and pray and just listen to what He has to say to me.

And I want to do it! I want to! I just don't. I spend more time on this stinking addictive blog stuff.
Call me crazy, but I know there's got to be more of me out there...am I right?

Please tell me I'm not the only one who spends more time on this than in the Word and in prayer. I feel so guilty. Something has got to change!

Some other little things about me: I love getting emails or comments on my blog, I love Karen Kingsbury books, my husband is a health freak and I love to eat, my husband loves to work-out and I do not, however I do it because I want to look good and stay healthy, I love to shop, love chocolate. I'm not even 5' tall (Kaci - we can look eye to eye!), and I can't wait to meet all of you in person!

Wow, Ashley--What a great testimony! I bet you have some wonderful mission field stories, too.

I look forward to meeting you, Siesta!

Ladies, Ashley is also quite a wonderful cook! Her recipes have just been added to the cookbook a week or so ago. I look forward to trying them out.

Ashley,
I visited the Philipines during my junior year of college. It is one of the most beautiful places on the face of the earth! And the fruit there is sooooo good!!

I look forward to meeting you soon!

Blessings,
Kimberly

Ashley,

Nice to meet you. You sound pretty normal to me. I think we all have learned how addictive blogging can be and so we learn to set some limits for ourselves. Praying is something that is a learned discipline I truly believe. It doesn't come naturally for the majority of people, but when you decide to set aside time each day (maybe start with 10 minutes) and focus on communicating with the Lord, it becomes a habit. I do my best praying when I am out exercising. The Lord is in such good shape because He and I walk and talk!!

See you in San Antonio, Siesta.

Hey Ashley!
We can be buddies for more than one reason now, because I am only 5'2" :)
I would LOVE to hear more about your time in the mission field as a child. That kind of stuff really intrigues me.
Can't wait to meet in person!

Hi Ashley-I can only imagine the stories you have about living in the Philipines!

My children are grown and on their own, so I have no excuse to not be in the Word on a daily basis! But I find that on some days it's noon and I haven't done my Bible study yet. I've adopted one of Amy Grant's sayings from her latest book. She doesn't have time first thing in the morning to study so she goes out on her porch and says "This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it"! It helps me to focus on God's day, not mine!

Can't wait to taste some of your recipes, it's time for some new ones in our kitchen!

Hey Gal!
Y'all have a great Czech Bakery there in West! I am always a little in awe of MK's and their experiences. I think you have a wonderful testimony without the drama that some of us have had. God has wired us all up differently knowing that not everyone can relate the same way to each other! Your children a re beautiful and it'll be fun meeting you in San Antonio!

I agree with Holly, I bet you have some great missionary stories to tell! You're definitely not alone about spending too much time in blog land! I've really had to cut out how much time I spend (and I don't even have my own). We will look eye to eye too since I'm 4'11".
Looking forward to meeting you!

Ashley,
I asked God for an extended time with my kids this summer. For the first time in... well, forever I have the summer almost completely "off". Friday at 4 am I woke up in a cold sweat. I spent the next hour on my knees crying and asking for forgiveness for spending so much time in blogland while my kiddos were RIGHT THERE for me to minister to. All that to say, this blogging thing has blessed me so much, but there have to be limits and YOU ARE NOT alone!

By the way, nice to meet you, and don't worry that you don't have a wild testimony. There are many of us who wish we didn't.
=)

Thanks for your spotlight. Being an MK...What a great legacy to pass on to your kids!

As a young girl participating in G.A.s,(btw it stands for "Girls in Action", a missions program for girls)I always dreamed of living "overseas".

Look forward to meeting you in San Antonio!

Hey AShley! Nice to meet you!

You're not alone in needing to set aside more time with God. There are others...I'm one - so that makes at least TWO of us!! :)

Ashley, you have an awesome testimony! To know that there are kids who grow up to love and serve the Lord without a huge season of rebellion is such a testimony to a mom like many of us who are praying our children will do the same, How great is our God!
Look forward to meeting you in August!

I also love the Philippines (which my family is discussing how to spell!); we have some dear friends there in Iloilo City; my husband ministered with them in January and they have visited in our home for many years; the wife is a WONDERFUL cook and Bro. Ben is an evangelist. My daughter has Laotian roommates, so we are great fans of Asians! Hang in there with you kids and blogging IS addictive! Blessings!
